The Good Nazi is a documentary that tells the compelling story of Major Karl Plagge, a Nazi officer who, during the Holocaust, was the commandant of a forced labor camp in Vilnius, Lithuania. Despite his position, Plagge used his authority to shelter hundreds of Jewish families, saving many from execution by the SS. The film follows a group of scientists as they uncover the hiding places used by those Plagge saved and identify the mass graves of those who were not as fortunate.
The documentary also features the stories of a child survivor of the camp and an American physician whose mother was saved by Plagge. Through their experiences, the film highlights the moral courage of a man who chose to follow his conscience rather than his orders.
