This is a simple, easy to make, flavorful side dish.
You can also use brown parboiled rice with good results.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup parboiled rice (uncooked)
- 2 TBS butter, margarine, or olive oil
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 can (4 oz) sliced mushrooms, drained
- 1/2 tsp ground thyme
- 1/2 tsp ground sage
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 bouillon cubes or 2 tsp instant bouillon (vegetable, chicken, or beef)
- 1 TBS soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 1/2 cups water
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a microwave safe bowl.
- Cook uncovered until water is absorbed, about 18 minutes.
- Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Fluff with a fork and serve.
